Katrina's Story

In 2001 a tragic accident nearly took the life of our little girl.

On the evening of July 3rd we attended a Fourth of July celebration at a friends house. Katrina was lying on a blanket among the spectators watching the wonderful display of fireworks. In a matter of seconds our whole world turned upside down.

As a box of missiles was firing, the percussion flipped the box on its side. Three missiles fired into the crowd with the third one traveling about 30 yards. It hit Katrina and caused 2nd and 3rd degree burns to her face and upper body. She was rushed to our local hospital where we awaited the Life Flight helicopter. We were soon notified that due to approaching storms the helicopter could not make it and we would have to wait for a Burn Unit Ambulance to come from Kansas City (2 hrs. away). During this time the only thing the doctors could do was try to ease the pain. By the time we arrived in Kansas City, 4 hours later, she had been given several doses of morphine. Upon arrival at the hospital Katrina suffered an allergic reaction to the medications. For a brief moment in time...we had lost our little girl.

But for the Grace of God and the wonderful medical staff she was returned to us. For the next 14 days Katrina would undergo debriding twice a day. Debriding is the procedure of scrubbing the burns in order to remove damaged tissue. The pain is so tremendous that among the medications given, they give the victim a medication that causes an amnesia effect. This, in theory, is supposed to make them forget the experience.

After 14 days at Children's Mercy Hospital Burn Unit, Katrina was finally able to go home. Only to return again the following day and receive the news that she would have to undergo a skin graft operation. All went well with the operation but she was left with terrible scars. As she was recovering she suffered from acute itching and discomfort. Her doctor suggested a few different creams that might work but none could penetrate the thick scar tissue that was building up. To watch our child scratch so hard she would bleed was more than we could bear. We knew we had to find a way to alleviate the itching and discomfort.

AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS OF RESEARCH, TRIAL AND ERROR OUR EFFORTS FINALLY PAID OFF! OUR LITTLE GIRL WAS ITCH FREE.

I started using it myself as it was non-greasy and made my skin feel fabulous. We soon started getting requests from family and friends for more lotion.

In October of 2002 we decided to go public with our lotion and "Simply Misty" was born!

In 2003 we opened a retail storefront (formerly Curio's Bath & More Store) that gave us the exposure that we needed to launch our products. Word of our products quickly spread and soon we had made a place for ourselves in the skin care industry. We have received such awards as "The Governors Award for Excellence" and "Leader of the Year in Business and Entrepreneurship". Both television and newspaper genres are still reporting our story. The desire from the public to hear our success story is so great that we are continually invited to speak at public and private forums.

To date we have sold thousand of bottles and received 100's of testimonials. Our customers have claimed it to heal and/or relieve the discomfort associated with: Psoriasis, Eczema, Dermatitis, Shingles, Rosacea, Radiation Burns and just plain old fashioned dry skin!
